Only 3 pages left to go!

Pretty happy with myself for pulling off the big ol' face in panel two. This is also my first ever two panel page, just in case anyone wants to know.

On another note... I saw the Deftones Thursday night and they were incredible. For those who aren't familiar with their brand of awesome (at times equal parts The Cocteau Twins and Black Sabbath) I'd direct you here...

Now, doesn't that just make you want to melt into your couch, grab a spoon, and start scooping edible clouds out of the sky?

If only we knew wheredadopeat...

Formalism...

Sorry there's no finished page today... making that stairway look "right" took a lot longer than I expected.

On another note, I tried a kind of crazy formalist thing today that I think works pretty well but I'm looking for feedback.

Does anyone have opinions on the segue between panel 1+2!?!

Por Mi Madre...

Awhile back, my Mom commissioned me to do some art for our new living room. She asked that I do my crazy water-color with the ladies deal and this is what I came up with.

Every now and then you have a break-through...

Today was one of those days!

The new version of page 8 is most certainly the best page I've ever toned in my life... I was finally able to use tone to add texture and it's made me really happy.

Not sure what tomorrow is going to bring, I'm assisting my friend with a project of his so I'm not sure if I'll have anything more than pencils to show for page 9.

Easter Slackin...

I didn't get a whole lot accomplished on the drawing front today... just some ligne claire and "true black" stuff for the first panel of the re-drawn and re-written page 8.

I DID however go on a really nice walk around Lake of the Isles, get my grant application in the bag, and have an early steak dinner with my uncle and two cousins.

All and all that's pretty good, right?!

Something Old (Re-drawn)

Above is page 8 from "I'm Old Fashioned" re-drawn and re-written. I've been unhappy with the way I handled the original page for awhile (the second image at the top) and I've decided that I should do something about it.

This is the last of my old portraits that I'll be colorizing. I'm back in Minneapolis tomorrow morning and that means it'll be time to tone my comic from October.

Here's the second portrait from the summer of '10 that I've decided to add color to. Check back tomorrow for the last of the bunch!

Something old made new again...

The plan was to get some toning on an old comic done while I was visiting in Chicago for these next few days. Unfortunately, when I booted up the computer this morning, I found that I had actually deleted the files that I needed awhile ago and forgotten that I'd done so.

As this is the case, I started looking back through my black and white drawings that I did last summer and started picking out candidates for colorization!

This is the first of them (on the left is the original)... I think it turned out PRETTY darn well...

This was originally going to be 8 pages but I'm think it's going to be more like 12 now...

Also, I'm heading back to Chicago so I won't be able to post updates for this comic till later in the week because my folks don't have an 11x17 printer for my blue-lines.

That being said, I am going back and toning my comic from October so I'll be posting a few pages from that every day while I'm home.

On a completely un-related note, I was reminded this morning of how Tony Williams was unquestionably the nastiest man to ever sit behind a kit. For real, watch this and feel the pain brought about by awesomeness as your jaw hits the floor six or seven times...

Sebbin Lebbin...

Did anyone else find it funny that when Batman was dressed up as a wino in DKR that he pronounced, "seven eleven" as "sebbin lebbin"?

Probably not...

Also, got turned on to this little number today... it might very well be serenity incarnate (and also my preferred take on the tune now... sorry Kanye)
