RAW Jones Jr.

When I was pencilling those Roy Jones drawings the other night, I was trying to capture as much information as quickly as possible and give things a more raw look.

Looking at the drawing again today, I decided to ink it up but go about things a little differently than usual.



As I tend to pencil a little more roughly, inking tends to be about finessing my lines and adding clarity to things. For the two drawings you see above, I threw caution to the wind and inked with reckless abandon.

These both have their moments, I think I lost the likeness a bit, but careless inking is actually a LOT of fun and I'll probably try to work this kind of technique into my comics at some point.

Brushing up on ye Olde Facial Features...

I cracked open my copy of Jack Hamm's "Drawing the Head & Figure" (an EXCELLENT book) tonight as I hadn't brushed up on my anatomy in awhile.

Like the drawings of Roy Jones I did last night, I tried to keep things pretty spontaneous here, referencing the drawings in the book for split seconds at a time and then trying to work out the spatial relationships on the page as independently as possible.

I really enjoyed doing these so look for a few more posts like this before the week's out!!!

Honestly, I don't even know why people get in the ring with this dude, it's embarrassing. He's so quick and so powerful that you're pretty much guaranteed a rotten week if you square up with him.

I hadn't done any really RAW pencilling like this in awhile and it was a lot of fun. I'm going to make a more regular habit of it.
